antibiotic options when allergic to primary choice antibiotics

The following information is to be used in conjunction with the Perio360 Profile Oral Microbiome DNA test results. The most efficacious choice of antibiotic regimen for the detected pathogens will be printed on the report form. In case of allergy to any of the recommended antibiotics, there are secondary and tertiary recommendations for the pathogens present. The prescribing doctor is responsible for antibiotic choice and management. The patient’s clinical presentation and dental/medical history must be considered in selecting any medications. Antibiotics may react with other medications and may produce adverse side effects. Review the manufacturer warnings for any contraindications or consult with the patient’s physician if there are concerns with the selected antibiotic regimen. The options below will coincide with the primary recommendation which is printed on the report form.

option 1

Amoxicillin

First choice is Amoxicillin 500 mg tid for 8-10 days.

If allergic to Amoxicillin, second choice is Ciprofloxacin 500 mg bid for 8-10 days, and if allergic to Ciprofloxacin, then third choice is Clindamycin 150 or 300 mg tid for 8-10 days.

option 2

amoxicillin and metronidazole in combination

First choice is the COMBINATION OF Amoxicillin 500 mg tid for 8-10 days AND Metronidazole 500 mg bid for 8-10 days.

If allergic to Amoxicillin, second choice is Ciprofloxacin 500 mg bid for 8-10 days, and if allergic to Ciprofloxacin, the third choice is Clindamycin 150 or 300 mg tid for 8-10 days.

AND if allergic to Metronidazole, second choice is Clindamycin 150 or 300 mg tid for 8-10 days, and third choice is Doxycycline 100 mg bid for 1 day, followed by 100 mg qd for 8-10 days.

metronidazole

First choice is Metronidazole 500 mg bid for 8-10 days.

If allergic to Metronidazole, second choice is Clindamycin 150 or 300 mg tid for 8-10 days, and third choice is Ciprofloxacin 500 mg bid for 8-10 days.
